Poland's Orlen will no longer buy Russian oil. The last contract, under which Orlen supplied raw materials to the refinery in Litvínov, Czech Republic, ended on June 30. This is stated on Orlen's website.

"From July 1, 2025, the Orlen Group, and through it our entire region, will be free from Russian oil. We have closed this chapter and are jointly building a secure future for Central and Eastern Europe," said Orlen's CEO and President of the Management Board, Ireneusz Fąfara.

Currently, Czech oil refineries receive oil, in particular, from North Sea and Mediterranean fields, as well as from Saudi Arabia, South and North America, and Africa.

"This is what real energy security looks like, which we promised to Polish citizens and neighbors," Fonfara emphasized.

Another refinery of the group in Kralupy had already been processing only non-Russian oil. However, due to the limited pipeline infrastructure capable of supplying oil from alternative sources, the plant in Litvínov remained dependent on supplies via the Druzhba pipeline.

Following Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, the Czech government requested a temporary exemption from EU sanctions to continue importing Russian oil in order to maintain a stable supply to the Czech fuel market.
