Ukrenergo does not exclude that there will be outages throughout the winter: The war is not over

Vitaliy Zaichenko , Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo , does not rule out that blackout schedules in Ukraine may be in effect throughout the winter. He said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, commenting on the situation in Ukraine's energy system.
"You should always prepare for the worst case scenario," he explained, adding that changes in the energy system can also be positive.
When asked whether it is realistic to expect the schedules to be in effect throughout the winter in varying amounts, Zaichenko replied: "Potentially, it is possible. The war is not over. I can only assure you that we [...] are doing everything possible to minimize or cancel the blackouts.".
Ukrenergo added that information on the overall level of damage to the power system is classified, but outage charts give an understanding of the extent of the damage.
"We started with restrictions for the industry, and now we have three or four rounds of forced hourly blackouts for the population," Zaichenko reminded.
According to him, in case of severe cold weather, the blackouts may be even longer.
- There were no power outages in Ukraine for almost all of 2025.
- In September, due to Russian shelling, they resumed - first locally in some regions, and from October-November - throughout Ukraine .
