Ukrainian state energy company Ukrenergo and the finance and energy ministries will receive almost USD 240 million under two agreements with the World Bank, CEO of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi posted on Facebook.

“Almost USD 240 million is another significant contribution from our international partners to ensure the stability of our connection to the European power system and the restoration of high-voltage substations,” he said.

Under one of the agreements, Ukrenergo will receive a grant from the German government to purchase and install STATCOM, special devices that improve the stable operation of the power system.

Per the other agreement, Ukrenergo will receive assistance for special equipment, autotransformers, and other high-voltage equipment damaged by Russian missiles and drones.

“Ukrenergo is fulfilling an important technical condition of ENTSO-E to strengthen our connection to the European grid,” Mr Kudrytskyi said.

“STATCOM devices will not only increase the resilience of the Ukrainian power system, but will also have a positive impact on the balance of the entire united European continental network”

Earlier, Ukrenergo announced that the US tech giant Cisco would help with the modernisation and protection of power grids in Ukraine.

The companies will work to modernise the grid infrastructure and improve control and protection systems to increase the stability of the power system synchronisation with ENTSO-E.
