Zelensky: We will not allow Russia to sell oil to Hungary, it's a matter of time

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Friday that it is only a matter of time before Russian oil exports to Hungary are stopped.
"We cannot allow Russians to make money on energy. And even where they twist our arms because of certain contracts, obligations, etc., we will still find a way out so that there is no Russian oil in Europe," the President of Ukraine said at a briefing after a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff.
"We will not allow the Russians to sell oil there. It is a matter of time. We cannot do this today, because there are many different dependencies in this puzzle, but we will still put the puzzle together," he emphasized .
The President added that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's attempts to block Ukraine's accession to the EU will fail.
"The Russians failed [to do this]. He thinks that if it happens six months later, it will stop Ukraine, but it won't," Zelensky said .
The president also said that Orban, "who is constantly talking to various players to influence us," should have based his policy on friendship rather than hatred for Ukraine.
"He thinks not about people, but about himself. And he thinks that he will do it on the hatred of Ukraine. He won't," the president said .
- From January 1, 2025 Ukraine stopped transit of Russian gas after the expiration of the five-year contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz.
- The contract for the transit of Russian oil is valid for another four years: in 2019, Ukrtransnafta and Transneft agreed to extend it for ten years – from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2030.
- In October 2025, EU countries agreed on a plan to ban Russian gas and oil from 2028 .
