President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, could cost Russia at least $5 billion per month. He made this statement during a conversation with journalists, according to a LIGA.net correspondent.

"These sanctions will reduce their profits by at least $5 billion a month. These are not our figures — they have not yet been verified by our intelligence — this is information I received from our partners. I believe that within a month we will have a clear understanding once all the data are verified and confirmed by intelligence," the president said.

He added that the effectiveness of these sanctions is also reflected in Russia’s reaction.

"The Russians, for example, represented by Comrade Dmitriev, are furious and claim that these sanctions will not work," Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, to strengthen the effect of the sanctions, it is necessary to target Russia’s shadow oil fleet.

"The example of the French, who began detaining oil tankers, is very important. Why? Because attention must be paid to the crew — they must be physically verified — and also to the tanker’s route. The sanctions should operate in a way that physically prevents all these oil shipments," Zelenskyy explained.

  • On October 22, the United States imposed sanctions on two of Russia’s largest oil companies and called on Moscow to immediately agree to a ceasefire.
