Kobolyev had been a member of the supervisory board of Kyivstar since December 2020 as a representative of its shareholder, VEON Ltd.

On May 15, they decided to replace him with another representative – Joop Brakenhoff, who became the chief financial officer of the VEON group back in May 2023.

At the end of April, Kyivstar extended the powers of all seven members of the supervisory board, including Kobolyev, for three years.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau suspects Kobolev of embezzling UAH 229 million ($6.2 million) in bonuses for winning the Stockholm arbitration against Gazprom.

Since March 2023, he has been forced to wear an electronic tracking device.
