Ukraine greenlights 5G testing by Huawei and Nokia in three cities

The National Commission for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services (NCCS) has granted permits to Huawei Ukraine LLC and Nokia Solutions and Networks Ukraine LLC to test 5G NR technology. This was reported on the regulator's website following a meeting on May 14.
According to data from industry publication dev.ua, the companies will conduct testing from May 14 to July 31, 2025, on the network of PJSC VF Ukraine (Vodafone), but in different cities.
In particular, Huawei Ukraine will conduct tests of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) radio technology with the 5G base standard in Kropyvnytskyi and Ivano-Frankivsk.
During the tests, the company plans to use Huawei-branded DBS5900 model test base stations with RRU5818 model remote radio units.
Nokia Solutions and Networks Ukraine will conduct testing of 5G NR technology in Vynnyky, Lviv region. The radio equipment will be integrated into Huawei's PS Core commercial infrastructure.
Each company is obliged to submit an official report on the test results within one month after completion.

- On November 1, 2024, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that the Cabinet of Ministers had adopted amendments to the resolution on radio frequency use, enabling the implementation of 5G in Ukraine.
- Lviv was the first city to test the 5G network in Ukraine.
