Last week, the La Perouse tanker loaded liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia's sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project. About writes Reuters citing data from analytical companies Kpler and Vortexa.

The agency notes that this is the sixth gas shipment from this plant in 2025.

Previously China receives first LNG cargo from Arctic LNG 2, which is under sanctions due to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. This was the first delivery to an end user since the project was launched last year.

The last tanker, La Perouse, arrived at the plant on August 27, loaded gas and departed on August 30-31.

La Perouse was among five LNG tankers that the UK sanctioned last September because of their interaction with Russia's strategic energy projects.

The registered owner of the tanker is Enson Shipping Inc (Dubai, UAE), and the commercial manager is Dreamer Shipmanagement LLC-FZ.

According to Kpler and Vortexa, another sanctioned tanker, the Arctic Vostok, is currently docked at the Koryak floating storage facility in Russia's Kamchatka, where LNG from Arctic LNG 2 is stored. It was from there that the cargo for China was loaded.

The owner of Arctic Vostok is Lule One Services Inc. and the commercial manager is Ocean Speedstar Solutions. Both are based in Mumbai, India.

  • In June 2024, Novatek's projects Arctic LNG-1, Arctic LNG-2 and Murmansk LNG were subject to US sanctions. The same sanctions list includes companies from China that were found to have ties to Russia.
  • The restrictions affected not only the supply but also the construction of LNG-2 in the Arctic. Immediately after the project was added to the sanctions lists China cancels shipment of liquefaction units and turned the vessel with the equipment around just a few days before arriving in Murmansk.
