Russian forces attempted to strike a Lviv–Kramatorsk passenger train with a drone on Friday, October 24, Ukrzaliznytsia reported on Facebook. Although the train itself was not hit, the blast wave damaged windows in three carriages.

The incident took place near the entrance to Kramatorsk station.

"An attempt to attack train No. 104/103 Lviv–Kramatorsk with a drone was recorded. The enemy failed to hit the train, but the blast wave shattered windows in three cars. There were no casualties. Boarding for the return trip proceeded as scheduled, and train No. 103/104 to Lviv has already safely departed Kramatorsk," Ukrzaliznytsia said in a statement.

The damaged carriages will be replaced at a safe location.

  • Over the past three months, Russia has not only intensified attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure but also begun using more precise drones.Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine has publicly reported about one attack per week on railway facilities. Since mid-summer 2025, that number has more than doubled to two or three per week.
  • Russian drones are now equipped with cameras and radio modems, enabling real-time course correction and improving strike accuracy. Locomotives are particularly vulnerable to this new technology because they are relatively slow and follow predictable routes.
