Avtomagistral-Pivden has launched the second stage of construction of a transport interchange at the 21st kilometer of the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway, near the village of Vita-Poshtova, the company reported on Facebook.

The first stage of the project — which included a tunnel and a roundabout from Boyarka to enable a safe turn toward Kyiv — opened to traffic at the end of August 2025. The new phase involves building a two-level horseshoe interchange to facilitate a turnaround for vehicles traveling toward Odesa.

According to the company, the second phase will eliminate the controlled intersection near the Southern Cemetery, considered one of the most dangerous sections of the highway.

The previous contractor, the Azerbaijani company Evrascon, began construction in 2021 as part of a project financed by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Work was halted after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Avtomagistral-Pivden said it decided to dismantle the central support pillar of the interchange due to construction defects left by the previous contractor. The new construction phase began with building permanent and temporary support structures, as well as the foundation of a retaining wall required after the Vita-Poshtova exit was shifted closer to the main highway.

  • Under the original project, Evrascon was to build two interchanges on the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa road (km 15+390 — Chabany, km 21+847 — Vita-Poshtova) and one on the M-06 Kyiv–Chop road (km 21+767 — Stoyanka) as part of the program "Improving the Transport and Operational Condition of Roads on the Approaches to Kyiv," funded by EIB and EBRD loans.
  • Initially, the project envisioned five interchanges, but Kyiv City Council did not allocate land for two of them.
