Nigeria's former oil minister wanted for embezzlement of $14.86 million
Nigeria's former oil minister, Timipre Silva, was put on the wanted list on charges of embezzling $14.86 million, writes Reuters. The Anti-Corruption Agency said on Monday that a court had issued a warrant for Silva's arrest on November 6.
According to the investigation, the money was part of a public investment in a project to build an oil refinery. The funds were supposed to go to Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. Instead, according to law enforcement, they were simply stolen.
According to the court's decision, law enforcement agencies must facilitate the delivery of Silva to the Commission on Economic and Financial Crimes "to answer for the criminal offense he allegedly committed."
Timipre Silva served as the Minister of Petroleum from 2019 to 2023 under the previous President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
