Novatek's sanctioned project delivers third batch of gas to China
The third tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia's sanctioned Arctic LNG-2 project arrived in a Chinese port on Tuesday. About writes Reuters.
Tracking data from Kpler and LSEG vessels indicate that the Russian sanctioned gas tanker Zarya has arrived at the Teshan LNG terminal in the southwestern province of Guangxi in China.
The cargo is more than 160,000 cubic meters and was loaded at the Arctic LNG-2 plant in Gidan in northern Siberia on July 30.
The first batch of gas from the Arctic LNG-2 project was delivered to China by the Artic Mulan tanker in late August. This happened on the eve of the visit of Russian dictator Vladimir Putinduring which the countries, in particular, discussed agreements on the construction of the gas pipeline.
In early September second batch of gas lNG-2 was delivered from the Arctic to China by the Voskhod tanker.
Arctic LNG-2, 60% owned by the Russian company Novatek, was supposed to become one of the largest liquefied natural gas plants in Russia with a target capacity of 19.8 million tons per year.
After the administration of the US President Joe Biden blacklisted it in 2023, and the project began to have problems.
- According to Kpler, in 2024, eight batches of gas were loaded from the Arctic LNG-2 onto several sanctioned gas carriers, four of which were unloaded in the Koryak Autonomous Region of the former Soviet Union.
