Now, officially, there are almost 502,000 small ruminants in the country. "For the last two years, the herds have been steadily increasing," says Vasyl Stefurak, head of the Association of Sheep Breeders and owner of the Sheep Breeding Revival Center. This refers only to officially registered animals; a large part of the livestock population is in the shadows.

Sheep registration began this year, after the state started paying a subsidy of 2,000 hryvnias for each new sheep or goat. If you raise Romanov sheep, one sheep can give birth to 5-6 lambs a year. Therefore, if there is enough money in the state budget, the official number of sheep will double by the end of the year.
