Finnish defense group to build drone factory in Finland with Ukrainian partners
Finnish defense and security company group Summa Defence is collaborating with Ukrainian partners to establish a drone manufacturing plant in Finland, according to a press release from Summa Defence.
Summa Defence will create a subsidiary, Summa Drones, to lead the joint venture with Ukrainian companies Kort, Elf Systems, Skyassist, and MPS Development.
The goal of the Finnish plant is to rapidly increase production capacity for drones used in combat operations in Ukraine and to introduce industrial drone manufacturing in Finland and Europe.
Large-scale production of aerial, ground, and marine drones is planned to begin in the first half of 2025.
"The demand for drone technology and production capability is high. Drones will be delivered not only to Ukraine but also across the European Union and NATO countries," said Summa Defence CEO Jussi Holopainen.
The establishment of the plant in Finland is seen as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the reliability of drone system supplies both in Ukraine and internationally.
On November 19, the British government announced additional military support for Ukraine amounting to $9.48 million to fund new strike and reconnaissance drones.
On November 23, it was reported that Lithuania will finance the production of long-range Ukrainian drones.
