The European Union is preparing to impose the "toughest sanctions" against Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war. This was stated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot on the French TV channel TF1.

"Europe, on the basis of French proposals, is preparing to adopt the toughest sanctions in three years, which will directly deplete the resources that allow Vladimir Putin to wage war," Barro said.

According to him, the new restrictions may affect Russia's oil export revenues, as well as financial structures that help circumvent the existing restrictions.

The French minister also emphasized that Russian troops are no longer making progress at the front and are focusing on missile and drone attacks on residential areas in Ukraine, which is causing numerous civilian casualties.

"This has to stop," Barro added .

In parallel with the EU, the US is also working on new sanctions. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said that the US Senate is preparing to vote on a new sanctions bill after the summer recess in Congress.

According to him, the document will allow imposing sanctions and duties against countries that support Putin's military machine and do not help Ukraine.

  • on July 8, German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefuhl said that Europe is working with the United States to increase pressure on Putin.
