The Prosecutor General’s Office alleges that detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), led by Oleksandr Skomarov, helped businessman Hennadii Boholiubov leave the country in 2024. This was stated in comments by the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding searches conducted at NABU on Monday.

"It has been established that NABU detectives reporting to Oleksandr Skomarov, acting on behalf of MP Fedir Khrystenko, assisted Hennadii Boholiubov in crossing the state border. In particular, two Bureau employees allegedly accompanied the fugitive oligarch on a train during his escape abroad," the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

The investigation also believes that Boholyubov’s business partner, Ihor Kolomoiskyi, expected Skomarov’s assistance in "resolving his criminal cases" if Skomarov had won the competition to head the Bureau of Economic Security.

However, Skomarov failed to secure the position, receiving zero out of six possible votes in the final round of selection.

According to investigators, Skomarov maintained ties with MP Fedir Khrystenko, who has been formally charged with treason and alleged to have been recruited by Russian intelligence.

"There is evidence that in 2022, Skomarov’s wife left Ukraine in a vehicle registered to Khrystenko’s family," the Prosecutor General’s Office added.

  • Boholiubov reportedly left the country in June 2024 using a passport that did not belong to him (according to the State Bureau of Investigation, the businessman denies breaking any laws.) He was arrested in absentia in November 2024, and in February 2025, both he and Kolomoisky were sanctioned by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council. Boholiubov is currently believed to be residing in Vienna.
  • Kolomoiskyi has been held in pre-trial detention since September 2023. He faces three sets of charges, including organizing a contract killing.
