The government plans to increase the state educational order for a number of technical and educational specialties that will be in demand during the large-scale post-war reconstruction of the country. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to plans, in the next academic year, the state order will increase to the following specialties:

  • engineering, manufacturing and construction – 27.6%;
  • education – 15.8%;
  • information technology – 13.4%;
  • security and defense – 7.6%;
  • agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary medicine – 6.7%.

"Currently, we see structural unemployment in the market, when there are vacancies and there are job seekers, but they do not meet each other's requests. Ukrainian business calls the shortage of personnel the number one problem. Therefore, the development of education, high-quality career guidance, and the development of the training and retraining system are a priority," Svyrydenko noted.

According to her, there is currently a demand for specialists in technical specialties, so the government is adjusting the state educational order.

For those who want to change their profession, the government offers retraining programs. Ukrainians are offered vouchers worth up to UAH 30,000 for retraining in the specialty and educational institution of their choice.

"We are also reforming vocational education centers for adults. We are involving business in this. All of our vocational education centers already have entrepreneurs on the supervisory board, who help adjust training courses to market demand," Svyrydenko added.

In addition, the government is working on updating labor legislation. It is planned to introduce student employment contracts and allow paid vacations for students studying remotely.
