Ukraine is actively working on participating in the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said at a briefing.

The discussions specifically concern Azerbaijani gas, not gas from other sources.

"This is about Azerbaijani gas and Ukraine's role in its transportation. Yes, this work is indeed underway," Tykhyi stated.

The spokesman also addressed comments made by the Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, noting that Ukraine believes Slovakia should have ensured resource diversification and energy security earlier, as other European nations have done.

"Now is not the time to complain about work that was not done, leading to current energy supply needs," Tykhyi added.

He highlighted that Europe has sufficient non-Russian energy resources, including American gas and fuel from other partners, to meet consumer needs.

"We urge all European countries to focus on these energy sources rather than relying on Russia. Russia does not provide anything for free; if it offers cheaper gas, the rest of the cost is paid with sovereignty," TykhyI noted.

On July 22, 2024, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev stated that his country is ready to supply gas to the EU via Ukraine after the contract with Gazprom expires at the end of 2024.

On January 25, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine is prepared to use its infrastructure to transport Azerbaijani gas.
