Chernihiv region restored 95% of pre-war level of agricultural production – head of OVA

Chernihiv region has almost completely restored agricultural production to pre-war levels. About this reported vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration (RSA).
According to Chaus, over the past three years, Chernihiv region has restored 95% of its pre-war level of gross agricultural production.
He noted that 2024 was a record year for the region in terms of grain harvest. The region harvested 5 million tons, which is 26% more than in 2022.
The agro-industrial complex remains the main driver of the region's economy, accounting for more than 80% of the region's total exports.
Most of the products exported are of plant origin. In 2024, exports of agricultural products from Chernihiv region exceeded $800 million.
Tax revenues from agribusiness increased by 54% compared to 2022, and payments to local budgets increased by more than a quarter. This money is used to develop communities, infrastructure, and support defense.
At the same time, the region is still facing the consequences of the war. After Russia's full-scale invasion, about 60,000 hectares of agricultural land remain potentially contaminated with mines and shells, of which more than 17,000 hectares cannot be cleared due to the proximity to the border.
Humanitarian demining work began in 2023. In two years, more than 1,700 hectares have been cleared, and this year more than 150 hectares have been cleared.
The government is also increasing support for farmers. In 2024, a record UAH 355 million was allocated for the development of agriculture in Chernihiv region.
- Due to drought, spring frosts, Russian drone attacks and fires, farmers in Kherson region lost more than 50,000 hectares winter crops.
- Locust invasion following drought destroy the crop in the southern regions of Ukraine.
- National Bank worsened forecasting Ukraine's grain harvest in 2025 to reach 57.9 million tons and oilseeds to 21 million tons.
