In connection with the shortage of power in the power system due to mass Russian airstrikes, Ukraine has been importing electricity in small volumes since January 1. One of the first importing companies was D.Trading. It began actively importing electricity from the European Union in January.

At the COP28 climate conference, Rinat Akhmetov's DTEK group signed a memorandum with the wind turbine manufacturer Vestas, which provides for the completion of the construction of the largest wind power plant in Ukraine and Eastern Europe – the Tylihul wind farm in Mykolaiv Oblast with a total capacity of 500 MW.

In December 2023, it became known that Rinat Akhmetov's DTEK energy holding was considering the possibility of building small modular reactors to replace thermal power plants.
