Ukraine's soybean production could fall by more than 1 million tons. Nevertheless, the harvest of this crop will remain the second largest in history, reports industry publication APK-Inform.

The analysts drew attention to the updated estimate of the State Statistics Service, according to which the soybean area in Ukraine this year is 2.08 mln hectares, which is 24% lower than the record figure of 2024.

APK-Inform estimates the planted areas under soybeans at around 2.2-2.25 mln ha (-19%).

"However, even with the best prospects for soybean yields in 2025, the production of this crop may not exceed about 5.6-5.7 mln tons, which is 17% or 1.1-1.2 mln tons less than in 2024," the experts said.

This figure is quite high and may become the second largest harvest after last year's a historic high of 6.8 million tons.

At the same time, a significant reduction in soybean production potential could significantly affect the pace of trade in the domestic market and offset the expected drop in prices for this crop after introduction of a 10% export duty, noted in APK-Inform.

  • The Ukrainian Grain Association forecasts a harvest of 83 million tons of grains and oilseeds in 2025. This is by 5.5% more, than in the previous marketing year.
