Ukrgasvydobuvannya, a Ukrainian gas state company, in early July completed drilling the deepest well in its history, with a depth of 6,600 metres, it said in a statement on Friday.

The well has a production rate of 150,000 cubic metres of gas.

The field where the well was drilled was discovered in 2019. Its task was to further explore gas deposits and clarify the geological structure of the field.

"The completed industrial geophysical surveys allowed us to increase more than 100 million cubic metres of recoverable hydrocarbon reserves," Ukrgasvydobuvannya said.

During the first half of the year, Ukrgasvydobuvannya commissioned 13 wells with high gas production rates – over 100,000 cubic metres per day – after drilling and workovers. One of them produces 580,000 cubic metres per day.

Earlier this year, Oleksiy Chernyshov, CEO of Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state energy firm, said Ukraine could become a major exporter of natural gas in the next few years.
