Ukraine will help Moldova modernize the 400-kilometer section of the railway from the north to the south of the country. The corresponding memorandum was signed in Vinnytsia on Wednesday, by the state rail transport company Ukrzaliznytsia and Moldovan Railways, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure reported.

As part of the partnership, the railway corridor Valcinet - Ocnita - Balti - Ungheni - Chisinau - Căinari will be restored. Its length is 400 km.

Reconstruction of the station should increase its carrying capacity, increase the speed of trains and improve the quality of freight transportation. The reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of 2024.

The interest of Ukraine is that this section will become an additional convenient corridor for Ukrainian exporters, which will be connected, in particular, with the port of Reni.

The railway section reconstruction project was developed by Moldovan railway workers as part of the "Solidarity Lanes" initiative, which is supported by the European Commission. The project will be implemented at the expense of partners and international financial institutions.

32 million euros will be transferred to Moldova, and then directed to Ukrzaliznytsia for the restoration of the railway corridor.

In 2022, Ukraine and Moldova restored the connection on the railway section Berezyne - Basarabeasca in Odesa Oblast, bypassing the self-proclaimed Transnistria.

Also, in 2022, Ukraine and Moldova resumed the movement of passenger trains after a 24-year break on the Kyiv-Chisinau route passing through Vinnytsia.
