Number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in EU exceeds 4.3 million – Eurostat

The number of Ukrainians with temporary protection status in European Union countries increased to 4.31 million as of June 20, 2024, according to Eurostat data.

In May, 4.26 million Ukrainians were under temporary protection in the EU; in April, the number was 4.19 million.

The largest number of Ukrainians with temporary protection status is registered in Germany (1,347,525 people, 31.2% of the total among EU countries), Poland (965,775 people, 22.4%), and the Czech Republic (360,775 people, 8.4%).

Compared with the end of May 2024, the largest absolute increase in beneficiaries was observed in Germany (+15,010, +1.1%), Poland (+12,520, +1.3%), and the Czech Republic (+4,370, +1.2%). The number of beneficiaries decreased in only two EU countries: Estonia (-1,245, -3.7%) and France (-80, -0.1%).

Compared with the population of each EU country, the highest number of beneficiaries of temporary protection per thousand inhabitants was observed in the Czech Republic (33.1), Lithuania (27.2) and Poland (26.4), while the corresponding figure for the EU as a whole was 9.6 per thousand inhabitants.

Ukrainian citizens make up over 98% of temporary protection beneficiaries. Adult women account for nearly half (45.6%), children for 32.4%, and adult men for 22%.
