The construction of a new water pipeline, which is to provide drinking water to the city of Mykolaiv, has reached the finish line. More than 90% of the route has already been laid, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development reported.

"Restoring water supply to Mykolaiv is one of the priority tasks of the ministry. The city needs drinking water, so work is underway around the clock – and it is yielding results. We are approaching the final stage," said Deputy Minister Kostyantyn Kovalchuk.

According to him, more than 90% of the total route has been laid, construction and installation work at pumping stations is being completed, and a water intake on the Southern Bug River has been prepared.

The project provides for a backup power supply for continuous water supply in the event of possible power outages. Water for supply to the main water supply will be taken from the Southern Bug River. The water intake is in the final stage.

Completion of the main construction and installation activities is expected by the end of July, and centralized water supply to Mykolaiv is scheduled for August.

The work along the entire length of the water pipeline is being carried out by the group of companies "Avtostrada" of Maxim Shkil, although it was previously planned to give one section to three contractors.

The cost of building the water pipeline, including additional work, is UAH 6.227 billion.

The design capacity of the water pipeline will allow transporting 120,000 cubic meters of water per day for Mykolaiv and 50,000 cubic meters for the land reclamation system of Nova Odessa and Mykolaiv district.

  • In May, the head of the Ministry of Development and Trade, Oleksiy Kuleba, said that the financing of the Mykolaiv water supply system had been "quite significantly optimized" and allowed for savings of over UAH 2 billion.
  • The saved funds will be directed to other critically important water supply projects. Priority projects include the water supply for the Tomakivska and Myrivska communities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Bolhrad and Suvorivska water supply systems in the Odesa region, and the modernization of the water intake in the city of Lubny in the Poltava region.
