Ukraine grows its export of agricultural products: details

Ukraine exported 48.9 million tons of agricultural products worth $10.5 billion in the first nine months of 2024, according to the State Customs Service.

The volume of Ukraine's agro exports increased by 25% year-over-year, with their value rising by $1.4 billion.

The primary reason for this growth is the restoration of maritime connections. As of Wednesday, 89% of the total agro export volume was transported by sea.

On land, exporters prefer railway transportation, with only 2% of goods transported by road.

Meanwhile, 80% of all imported agro products entered Ukraine by road, approximately 18% by sea, and nearly 2% by rail. This is mainly due to imports from European countries.

Grain crops accounted for the largest share of exports, totaling 42.3 million tons worth $7.1 billion. Another significant portion of agro exports includes seeds and fruits of oil plants, amounting to 5 million tons worth $2.2 billion.

In contrast, Ukraine imported 978,800 tons of agro products worth $1.7 billion. Nearly half of all imports consisted of edible fruits and nuts, totaling 468,000 tons worth $563.8 million. Additionally, vegetables (194,200 tons worth $246.6 million) and seeds of oil plants (50,200 tons worth $346.5 million) were imported.

"Ukraine's agricultural sector continues to demonstrate stable growth, ensuring stable supply to external markets and meeting domestic needs through imports. The 'Grain from Ukraine' initiative has been crucial in this process, expanding opportunities for agro producers by developing alternative logistical routes," the State Customs Service noted.

In July 2023, the Black Sea Grain Corridor ceased operations, and in August 2023, Ukraine opened a new maritime route from Odesa. Initially, this route was used for the departure of civilian vessels that had been stranded in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.

In September, the route began operating not only for departures but also for arrivals, gradually allowing the unblocking of maritime exports for metallurgists and container transportation.
