Ukraine ends Russian dependence for Mi-8MTV helicopter repairs

On July 24, 2025, the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine approved changes to the special airworthiness requirements for Mi-8MTV helicopters, allowing them to be repaired independently of the Russian manufacturer, which has been under sanctions since 2022. The press service of the State Aviation Administration reported this development.
The updated regulations implement the "Instruction on Maintenance of Repair Documentation for Mi-8MTV Helicopters," which standardizes maintenance procedures for all Ukrainian civil aviation operators.
"This enables the repair of Mi-8MTV helicopters — including airframes, systems, and components — ensuring the continued safe operation of the entire fleet registered in the State Register of Civil Aircraft of Ukraine," the statement said.
The decision is significant for the continuation of cooperation between Ukrainian operators and the United Nations in the field of civil aviation services.
According to the State Aviation Administration, Ukrainian companies currently hold a 42% share of this market.
On July 25, American helicopter manufacturer Bell confirmed its intention to operate in Ukraine.
