'Zelenskyy's Gigawatt'. Energy Ministry announces connection of 967 MW of gas generation
Ukraine has added 835 MW of distributed gas generation capacity in 2024, bringing the total to 967 MW, with plans to add an additional 900 MW by the end of the 2024-2025 heating season, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Some of these projects already in the final stages of implementation.
Throughout the current heating season, between 0.9 to 1.8 GW of additional gas capacity will be available and utilized.
According to network operators, some of the generating facilities are connected to the technological electrical networks of consumers and are used to meet the needs of enterprises and communities.
"Work on connecting additional generating capacities continues. The government has adopted all necessary decisions to maximize the simplification of permitting procedures and accelerate the construction and connection timelines," said Energy Minister German Halushchenko.
- In June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine plans to build up to 1 GW of distributed generation in 2024 and an additional 4 GW in the coming years.
- In early September, Energy Minister German Halushchenko stated that hundreds of megawatts of the capacity announced by Zelenskyy had already been installed.
- At the end of December, the head of the Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Gerus, stated in an interview with Forbes Ukraine that approximately 300 MW have been installed, with up to 150 MW actually operational.
