The Verkhovna Rada wants to extend tax exemptions for the import of electric cars for one year. The corresponding amendment was supported by 248 MPs during the consideration of the draft state budget in the first reading.

"It is proposed to leave this rule for another year, but with the condition of additional compensators. It can be either a road toll or a fee per kilowatt of battery to equalize the rights of owners of electric vehicles and owners of internal combustion engines," said Dmytro Razumkov, the initiator of the amendment, at a parliamentary meeting.

According to the current version of the Tax Code, the import and sale of electric vehicles in Ukraine is exempt from value added tax until January 1, 2026.

In the summer, Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the Verkhovna Rada's tax committee, said that the privilege for importing electric cars would not be extended "no options".

On Wednesday, he was the only one to vote against Razumkov's amendment.

"This is an order of the government. That is, it is not yet considered final, the government should submit the final text in November," clarified Yaroslav Zheleznyak, first deputy chairman of the Tax Committee, who did not participate in the vote.

  • on July 15, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada adopted two draft laws on stimulating the development of the environmental transport industry: No. 3477 and No. 3476. The laws provided for a number of tax preferences. Until January 1, 2026, VAT was exempted on the import and supply of vehicles equipped with electric motors, as well as new vehicles with internal combustion engines running exclusively on compressed or liquefied methane or biogas.
