Third bridge, blown up at beginning of invasion, rebuilt in Kharkiv Oblast – photo
The bridge on the P-79 highway in Kharkiv Oblast was reopened to traffic. This is the third bridge in the region, restored after the destruction due to the Russian invasion, the State Restoration Agency reported.
Route P-79 connects four districts of the region and is an important logistical route in the direction of the front.
This bridge was destroyed at the beginning of the war to stop the advance of the enemy. After the Ukrainian military pushed back the Russians, road workers began to restore the facility.
In order to restore the bridge, which is important for logistics, as soon as possible, they decided to use corrugated metal pipes instead of classic monolithic structures.
This has speeded up the construction and reduced the cost of the project, according to the Restoration Agency.
After the de-occupation of Kharkiv Oblast, the Avtomagistral-Pivden company arranged a temporary detour, and last year began major restoration of the bridge. Corrugated metal structures of ViaCon were used by the contractor not for the first time.
"The advantage is that they do not require significant costs for their delivery, the use of specialized construction equipment and mechanisms for installation. The cost of the project is lower, the implementation time is shorter. And the service life of the ViaCon pipe is even longer than that of reinforced concrete structures," the contractor explained.
The length of the ViaCon pipes is 16 m, the height is 2.6 m, the width is 4 m. There is a new road construction on top.
As of July 22, the overhaul of the bridge is almost complete. The remaining tasks include applying the road markings and tidying up the adjacent area.
In the middle of June, in Kharkiv Oblast, traffic was restored on the bridge over the Siverskyi Donets, which was blown up back in February 2022 during the offensive of Russian troops.
At that time, the State Restoration Agency reported that 13 more artificial structures were being restored in Kharkiv Oblast. On the remaining nine structures planned for restoration, work has been suspended or has not yet begun due to proximity to the front line.
At the beginning of June 2024 , the bridge on the M-19 highway was repaired in the suburbs of Ternopil. The money was provided by the European Union.
On July 15, Kyiv signed a contract with the Turkish company Onur for the emergency repair of the Metro bridge.
