German weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall will build a modern powder plant in Romania for European armies, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced in an interview with Digi 24.

The project was developed jointly with the European Commission. The cost of the plant is 400 million euros. The European Commission will finance 47 million euros.

The plant will be built in the Fagaras-Victoria area on 300 hectares.

"This will be the most modern powder plant in Romania. Several contracts are currently being implemented," BizBrasov quoted the prime minister.

Representatives of Rheinmetall have already arrived in Romania to start building the powder plant, according to Economy Minister Radu Oprea. The Ministry of Economy controls the company ROMARM, which includes 16 state-owned factories for the production of ammunition and weapons.

The prime minister also admitted that Romania produces insufficient amounts of ammunition according to NATO standards and ruled out the possibility of an attack from Russia.

"We have thousands of soldiers on Romanian territory as a host country, we have French coordination, we have soldiers from all European states. It is excluded that Romania will suffer an armed attack from the Russian Federation," Ciolacu said.
