Former PM Honcharuk returns to government role as new Ukroboronprom oversight

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the supervisory board of the Ukrainian Defense Industry company, created to replace the Ukroboronprom conglomerate, announced Alexander Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industries following a meeting on Friday.

The board includes:

→ Oleksiy Honcharuk, former prime minister, chairman of the supervisory board of Aerorozvidka NGO;
→ Tymofiy Mylovanov, former minister of economy, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Ukroboronprom enterprise;
→ Serhiy Konovets, former member of the supervisory board of Ukreximbank and the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine;
→ David Lomzharia, member of the supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia;
→ Lynndy Smith, President and CEO of the Arizona Defense & Industry Coalition (AZDIC).

"We worked for a long time to ensure that Ukroboronprom got the best supervisory board. That's what happened," Kamyshin said.

He also pointed out that Honcharuk is "the first case in the history of independent Ukraine when a former prime minister returns to work for the state."

Oleksiy Honcharuk headed the government of Ukraine from August 28, 2019 to March 4, 2020.

Before being appointed to the Cabinet of Ministers, he worked as the deputy head of the President's Administration and the President's Office, and before that he was a lawyer in an investment company and the Ukrainian NGO Better Regulation Delivery Office.

On March 21, 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers made a formal decision to transform Ukroboronprom into a joint-stock company. The corporatization of Ukroboronprom is provided for by the law, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in the summer of 2021.

On June 27, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired the CEO of Ukroboronprom Yuriy Husiev.

In June 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Herman Smetanin as the CEO of UOP.
