Ukraine has agreed to issue 3,000 permits for transit transportation through the territory of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure reports.

This number of permits will be enough to cover all the needs of Ukrainian carriers until the end of 2023.

"The Ukrainian side has already received the appropriate permit forms for freight transportation. They will be available for orders from Friday, May 26, from 3:00 p.m.," the message reads.

Also, the Ministry of Infrastructure plans to discuss with Azerbaijani colleagues the transit quota of permits for the following years.

Ukraine and Azerbaijan cooperate in multilateral projects: Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, as well as in the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia).

Previously, Azerbaijan introduced changes that made it impossible to purchase a transit permit at the border.

On March 30, 2023, the law on canceling the issuance of permits at checkpoints across the state border of Azerbaijan for vehicles registered in foreign countries entered into force. The changes apply to all types of transportation, including transit.

They came as a surprise to Ukrainian carriers, however, Kyiv managed to settle the issue in less than two months.
