The Ukrainian gas transportation system and underground gas storage facilities are ready to operate under conditions of zero transit, i.e., when the transit of Russian gas is completely stopped, reported the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

Such an independent technical assessment was given by an international expert group after modeling the operation of the GTS and storage facilities under potential scenarios in the event of enemy attacks on the gas infrastructure, other emergency situations, and stoppage of Russian gas transit.

Also, the gas transportation system is ready for the winter season of 2023/2024 in the conditions of the challenges of war, and domestic gas storage facilities can be used as reliable storage facilities for European gas storage.

The verification of the technical conditions of operation during the stress test confirmed the reliability of gas transportation and storage even under the conditions of risk of hostilities and damage to the main assets, the ministry notes.

All scenarios simulate the failure of various combinations of critical operator objects. The analysis also takes into account data on attacks on infrastructure in 2022/2023, the structure, characteristics of damage in different regions of Ukraine.

The stress test was initiated by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. The modeling work was carried out by a working group consisting of and with the assistance of the USAID Energy Security Project, the Energy Community Secretariat, the General Directorate of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, Simone Research Group, NPC Naftogaz of Ukraine and, respectively, Ukrtransgaz and the Operator of the Gas Transportation System of Ukraine.
On August 17, 2023, Minister of Energy German Galushchenko stated that Ukraine will not negotiate with Russia on the extension of gas transit.
